The Technical Safety Engineer III ensures that the fire protection design requirements for the Client are met and that the design is in accordance with specifications and in compliance with applicable building and fire code requirements. They will also guide the design through the engineering phases of projects to ensure safety in design and operability.


  • Understand the project schedule and key milestones for assigned projects to provide technical assistance at appropriate time. 
  • Support the established single concept as the project progresses through subsequent project phases.  
  • Regulatory and Company compliance 
  • Technical guidance and day-to-day contact with fire protection discipline engineering contractor 
  • Guide the development of the fire protection design premises to ensure safety in design, operability and inclusion of commonality and synergies of existing facilities modifications and new facilities and associated modifications 
  • Work collaboratively with AK BU Technical Authorities to ensure adherence to AK BU Specifications and compliance with regulatory and Company standards.  
  • Provide advice and input to Facility Development Engineer (FDE) to support the single concept decision. 
  • Frame specifications and criteria deviations and seek TA approval on behalf of the project  
  • Accept engineering deliverables 
  • Review engineering drawings and relevant calculations and documents prepared by the engineering contractor as needed 
  • Participates in preparation/submittal of regulatory permits and coordinate correspondence and permit applications with the State of Alaska Fire Marshal office  
  • Review PSM & Management of Change documentation 
  • Participate in State of Alaska Fire Marshal facility inspections and follow up as required  
  • Work collaboratively with other disciplines to ensure inter-discipline coherence and experience transfer 
  • Provide engineering support and data of existing facilities to engineering contractor.  
  • Participate in the development of operation, maintenance and start-up philosophies and plans.  
  • Participate in the project risk management process 
  • Provide input to procurement process and evaluate quotes fire protection equipment  
  • Participate in relevant Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) 
  • Participate in AK BU Fire Protection Engineering collaboration activities, including monthly collaboration meetings, and training and development activities 
  • Participate in Knowledge Sharing throughout the BU and company via NoE participation   
  • Stay abreast of opportunities around the company and industry that may be leveraging for COPA and COP developments. 
  • Other duties will be assigned to this position as needs require.
  • Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
  • Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.


  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • BS Degree in Engineering required.
  • A minimum of Five (5) years experience in oil and gas Fire Protection design.  
  • Understanding of operational and maintenance requirements of upstream oil and gas processing facilities.  
  • In depth knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards including IBC, IFC, and NFPA codes.


  • Professional Engineer License in Alaska (preferred).

  • Meet the AES Driving Records and Motor Vehicle Use Policy.
  • Meet the physical requirements of this position including working in a remote location under arctic conditions.
  • Take and pass a pre-employment drug test which may include both UA and hair testing.
  • Required to take and pass a Fit-For-Duty Exam.
  • Required to complete and successfully pass a background check.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an access badge for the work location.

The availability of this position is contingent upon the Company’s continued operational needs once training is completed.
