BRIEF JOB SUMMARY

 

The North Pole Refinery Laborer will perform a variety of manual labor and operations tasks as required by the Refinery Manager, E & I Lead and Rotating Equipment Lead.  This is a full-time regular position working Sunday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm with a half hour off for lunch. The position is an entry level position for the Refinery. The following list of essential job duties is not all inclusive.

 

Note: If the Refinery Laborer is in good standing (attendance & performance) he/she would be eligible to apply for the Refinery Operator Trainee position. This is a one-year refinery operator trainee program.  During the training program, the trainee’s primary responsibilities are to learn all aspects of the refinery’s operation and assist the Operators in the day to day operation of the plant.  If the trainee successfully completes all requirements of the one-year program, he/she will be eligible for hire as an entry-level Refinery Operator provided an Operator position is available at that time.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  • Responsible for general maintenance of the grounds and facilities, including sweeping and gardening.
  • Operate after proper training and certification, forklifts, skid steer tractor, wheeled tractor along with other powered and non-powered snow and ice removal equipment.
  • Assist with replacing filters and routine maintenance throughout the refinery.
  • Load and unload trash, grass clippings, lumber, scrap, and other items from cars and/or trucks.
  • Set up and move offices, including lifting and transporting furniture, equipment and other items. Hang pictures and shelves as directed.
  • Drive company truck to pick-up parts and supplies in Fairbanks and/or North Pole areas.
  • Assist in general construction and painting work, as needed.
  • Participate in oil-spill response drills and emergencies.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organized work area.
  • Responsible for janitorial duties facility wide (Administration, Control Room, and Maintenance Buildings).
  • Assist Operations and Safety in weekly and monthly inspections of various fixed and mobile equipment.
  • Periodic overtime, including night shift, weekends and holidays may be required.
  • Learn the refinery hazards, safety procedures, and the various components which make up the refinery.  Refinery Laborer will be provided with training regarding the plant’s hazards, safety procedures and educational materials explaining various components which make up the refinery. Training will be computer based training and fundamental training.

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Process technology AA Degree preferred.
  • Engineering, mechanical, pipe welding, environmental, instrumentation, refining experience or construction skills are beneficial but not required.
  • Good math skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to quickly grasp and master complex ideas and procedures.
  • Ability to work and function well with other people in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Must have and maintain an Alaska driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Current 40 hour Hazwoper Certification Preferred.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

 

PSI is a drug-free workplace.  As such, you will be required to comply with PSI’s substance abuse policies.  This position will participate in DOT/PHMSA pre-employment and random drug testing.  If you have a CDL, this position will participate in DOT/FMCSA pre-employment and random drug testing in lieu of DOT/PHMSA.

 

This is not a rotational job on the North Slope.  You must live in the Fairbanks / North Pole area or be willing to relocate at your own expense.
