The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating all equipment on the job site, including, but not limited to: front-end loaders, motor graders, dozers, snow blowers, excavators, and tractor-trailers. This position is responsible for year-round road maintenance, civil project completion, and other duties as needed. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Review job specifications to determine equipment requirements for assigned work.
  • Interpret load charts and determine load capacities for different tractor-trailer configurations.
  • Perform daily walk-around inspection of tractor-trailer, load inspections, and properly securing equipment weighing up to 125,000 pounds.
  • Perform road maintenance for gravel road system during summer months and snow removal activities during winter months. 
  • Clear road ways and pads of snow with the use of front-end loaders, clip on snow blowers, and dozers.
  • Generate material in a gravel pit with the use of dozers, excavators, and loaders. 
  • Load and transport gravel with the use of end dumps.
  • Inspect all load-securing devices, monitor equipment operations, and identify malfunctions.
  • Complete work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Remove and install road delineators.
  • Clean, store, and maintain equipment as required. 
  • Must know how to apply AES O&M Cold Weather Operating Procedures.
  • Other duties will be assigned to this position as needs require.
  • Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
  • Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent. 
  • A minimum of 5 years' related experience. 
  • Must have a minimum of 10,000 hours of combined experience operating the following pieces of equipment:
    • Graders
    • Excavators
    • Backhoes
    • Front-end loaders (buckets, forks and clip-on snow blowers)
    • Dozers
    • Tractor-trailers

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 6,000 hours operating motor graders to maintain roads and pads
  • Previous experience operating loaders with the use of forks 
  • Experience working on the North Slope 
  • Experience working in an arctic environment
  • Experience operating the following:
    • Single maxihauls
    • Single water tankers
    • Double water tankers
    • Trimble or Topcon machine controls. 
  • Experience working on reserve pit snow removal projects, ice roads and pads projects, dewatering projects, or exploration remediation projects. 
  • NCCER qualifications. 

CERTIFICATIONS

  • Class A CDL license required. 
  • Current DOT medical card required. 
  • Current Tanker endorsement required. 
  • North Slope Training Cooperative certification (NSTC) or current card.

A candidate must be able to meet the following non-exclusive requirements:                                                               

  • Meet the AES Driving Records and Motor Vehicle Use Policy.
  • Meet the physical requirements of this position including working in a remote location under arctic conditions.
  • Take and pass a pre-employment drug test which may include both UA and hair testing.
  • Required to take and pass a Fit-For-Duty Exam.
  • Required to complete and successfully pass a background check.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an access badge for the work location.

The availability of this position is contingent upon the Company’s continued operational needs once training is completed.
