The Environmental Specialist’s primary responsibility is to ensure implementation of environmental policies, programs and practices to comply with all federal, state and local laws.  The position is responsible for maintaining the environmental compliance programs for facilities in the Interior of Alaska.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  • Assists with analysis of existing and new environmental regulations to ensure that all regulations are translated into effective company procedures to comply with Federal, State and local regulations.
  • Manages compliance with existing Air Quality Permits, Storm water permits, Waste water permits, and Waste management permits, and assists with the evaluation of permit deviations, coordination between operations and the safety & compliance departments, and ensures smooth regulatory communication on existing permit requirements.  
  • Oversees Development and Implementation of ADEC, EPA and USCG Contingency Plans, Spill Prevention and Response plans, and participates in response scenarios to enact contingency plans pursuant to regulatory and plan requirements.
  • Assists in regular and periodic Environmental Audits of the Interior Alaska facilities, identifying and communicating plans for improvement and supporting operations in completion of assigned action items. 
  • Maintains existing Environmental Management Software, including regular data maintenance and entry of existing and new regulations, permits, and other information relevant to the efficient operation of the Interior facilities. 
  • Implements National Interagency Incident Management System/Incident Command System to direct and assist with Incident Command on organizational, local and federal levels.
  • Travel to Interior and other Alaska statewide locations.


  • Minimum of eight (8) years relevant work experience in the areas of regulatory environmental compliance, hazardous materials/spill response, petroleum industry & refining, and fuel terminal operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or science, or commensurate work experience.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with  environmental regulations, management practices & procedures, including:
    • Resource Conservation & Recovery Act
    • Toxic Substances Control Act
    • Clean Water Act
    • Clean Air Act
    • Endangered Species Act
    • Alaska Administrative Code

This is not a rotational job on the North Slope.  You must live in the North Pole/Fairbanks area or be willing to relocate at your own expense.
